Hazardous Building Materials Assessment

Opterra was commissioned by Carly Gibson, Project Co-ordinator for BHI Architects Pty Ltd to undertake a Hazardous Building Materials Assessment of buildings located within the proposed Kiama Arts Precinct Development. The Hazardous Building Materials Assessment was prepared prior to the commencement of demolition works and in accordance with Australian Standard AS 2601-2001 The Demolition of Structures.

The purpose of the Hazardous Building Materials Assessment was to identify the location, extent and condition of visible and accessible asbestos containing and other hazardous construction materials present at the Site and determine the likely impact of these materials on persons accessing prior to, and during, demolition. Hazardous materials included asbestos-containing materials (ACM), synthetic mineral fibres (SMF), lead based paint and polychlorinated biphenyl (PCB) materials.
