Advantages of Using Drones
Drones or Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) can be used to capture a range of aerial data to support a variety of projects. There are many reasons why drones are used by environmental scientist for commercial and research applications including:
No fuel or airport charges; minimal set up and pack up times; most projects can be completed by a single operator, though some will require an additional camera operator.
Less labour-intensive than aircraft, our drone can be launched within minutes of the pilot arriving at your site and rescheduling a flight is as simple as checking the pilot’s availability. Being able to mobilise quickly also means the images can be analysed faster than traditional methods – a significant advantage for emergency response applications.
Due to the short set up time and minimal equipment, our pilot can respond with very little notice
Excellent camera quality and the ability to fly close to the ground allows drones to capture very high resolution images. It is a very simple process to obtain aerial imagery of areas not already covered by satellite imagery.
Most of the risks associated with flying are removed when using a drone.
Opterra can broadcast everything live directly to large-screen displays, YouTube audiences and standard TV channels. This technology allows us meet the requirements of professional broadcasting at high frame rates and HD clarity at up to 1080p/60fps or broadcast standard output of 720p/59.94fps and 1080i/50fps. This allows imagery to be observed and analysed in real-time.
A major benefit of drone imagery over manned aircraft and satellites is the temporal resolution that can be achieved. The fast set-up of drones allows images to be captured daily or even multiple times a day.
The drone industry is still relatively new but growing fast, with many uses yet to be identified. If you have a project that you think could benefit from the use of a drone please give us a call to discuss. We’re always looking for new and exciting applications.
We can provide combined drone and photography/videography services, or for photography/ videography professionals, we can provide the drone and give you control of the camera.
